Venue

Castello di Monterone will be the venue for both Friday and Saturday.

It is located about a 10-minute drive outside of Perugia, Italy.

We will be providing a shuttle to and from Perugia each day, but for those that choose to stay outside of the city we recommend renting a car.

Travel

Perugia is the capital of Umbria and is well connected to all major Italian cities via high-speed rail, as well as an international airport with direct flights to London and a handful of other European cities. Florence and Rome are the two closest cities with airports that have direct flights to and from America. Both are about a 2-hour train ride to Perugia. Perugia has an airport that you can connect to via London.

The venue is about a 5-minute drive from the city center and a 10-minute drive from the city’s train station.

If you choose to drive, there are car rental options in Rome, Florence, and Perugia. Please do your research regarding renting a car and where to park it, particularly if you are planning to stay in the city of Perugia. Don’t delay reserving your rental car — they may book out — especially if you need automatic transmission.

This is a great resource to get an overview of how to get to/from Perugia, including detailed information about train stations and parking.

Transportation to Castello di Monterone:
We will provide transportation to and from the Castello from Perugia on Friday and Saturday. More detailed information to come. If you are staying in Perugia please stay within walking distance to Sina Brufani hotel or Piazza Italia.

If you plan to join us in Italy, please book your airline tickets and accommodations well in advance! 2025 is a Jubilee year in Italy and there will be many more travelers - things will book quickly and if you wait they may be more expensive. If you are planning to spend time in Rome, be aware there will be many more people than usual - book your tickets, trains, and hotels well in advance.

Remember to check your passport expiration. Make sure it is valid for 6 months after your planned arrival. Italy requires 3 months but if you plan to travel anywhere else be on the safe side.

Accommodations

We have reserved all rooms at the venue for close family and members of the wedding party. We have already reached out separately if you have a room booked at Castello di Monterone.

For all other guests, we recommend staying in Perugia, but there are many accommodation options in the Umbrian countryside as well.

Hotels in Perugia

Perugia is safe, bursting with history, and has all the modern amenities you would find in America. We suggest staying in Perguia; it has many hotel options at varying price ranges and we will provide daily transportation from the city to the venue.

The following hotels come highly recommended:

  • Sina Brufani

    • I have contacted this hotel and as available they can offer a discounted rate if you contact them directly and give them the name “Morgan McDonald Wedding”

    • They will not hold rooms for us but will offer a special price if you choose to book there - but they may book out so please check in with them if you'd like to reserve a room.

Countryside Villas

For those that would rather stay outside of the city, renting a car provides opportunities to explore the beautiful Umbrian countryside and stay in quieter accommodations.

There are many villas and agriturismo available outside of Perugia. Often ideal for groups, some options include pools and dining. AirBnB and Agriturismo are great resources for researching more rural options.

Jubilee 2025

2025 is a Jubilee year for the Catholic Church. Every 25 years, a special door at St. Peters Basilica in the Vatican opens. According to tradition, those who walk through the door have their sins forgiven.

This means that there will be an unusually large number of tourists in Rome this summer. When planning your trip, you may want to think about avoiding sites and areas that might draw particularly large crowds. If you're planning to spend some time in Rome, know that the areas around the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and San Pietro are going to be an absolute zoo. However, it's a big city and you can find plenty of quiet neighborhoods and amazing places to visit (mostly) crowd-free.
